We headed out of Manasquan at 9 and set up on the chunk for a few hours later at around 1:30am. We marked lots of fish, however only managed to lure a mahi into the slick and lost a tuna on a jig. At sunrise we set out on the troll. Within the first hour a white came into the spread smacked a ballyhoo combo and was gone. Our second chance at a white was not until another 30 minutes later. This fish came up and a bait was dropped back. Fish on. The fish put up a great fight, but after a short battle, was brought boat side and released. The fish taped out at 67-68 inches. We had two more whites come up in the same area, but both were unable to find the hook. The only shot at tuna during the day was a single that blew up on the center rigger but never came tight. One pass by a pot yielded a doubleheader of small mahi. Baits went back out and within minutes the long rigger released and a blue marlin exploded through the spread. The fish provided us with a spectacular aerial display, tailwalking across the stern of the boat and taking the 30w deep on its initial run. The fish was fought for around 40 minutes before the leader was grabbed. The fish was revived and released healthy. The blue was an est. 250-275lbs. We trolled around for another few hours without anything to show for it. We came upon a grass patty and put some tasty mahi in the boat. Four fought valiantly, but ultimately found their way to the fish box of the Fintastic. With some meat in the box and two marlin releases, we headed back home. We ended the trip 1/4 on whites, 0/2 on tuna, a blue, and 6 mahi.
